Piano lessons

I have had wonderful teaching from Marjorie Clementi at what was the Royal Manchester College of Music and then the Royal Northern College of Music. After a long gap, I returned to the piano and had ten wonderful years with Warren Mailley-Smith as my teacher. I am currently engaged on a two-year Postgraduate Certificate in Piano Performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

I take on pupils from time to time - adults only - who wish to develop their skills and I aim to pass on all the things that I too have learned. Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing lessons.

I also bring into piano teaching coaching skills that I have learned in a business context which are useful to personal development in all areas including the piano.

  • "Having the opportunity of taking up the piano again later in my life has been enormously exciting. Claire, right from the moment I asked her if she would be kind enough to teach me, has always shown such enthusiasm. I have found time for myself again, with the discipline of practice which, in turn, leads to a sense of achievement and confidence. I count myself very fortunate in having the chance to be taught by Claire; her generosity in spirit is always encouraging and kind. Claire truly seems to develop a sense of inclusiveness in all who are interested in the joy of music together with progressing our skills and individual accomplishments."

  • "I have been taking lessons intermittently with Claire for a couple of years and I have benefitted greatly from her knowledgeable mentoring and wise advice. I very much enjoy not just the actual playing but the peripheral work around analysis and listening."
